Sattva Arising's EP is a journey of self reflection and relationship observation captured beautifully by well crafted, memorable and catchy rock pop tunes that highlight the group's ability to engage the listener.
Track one - Goodbye: The opening track is a huge nod to U2's 'Where the Streets Have No Name' with it's pulsating drive that one can't help but dance to as it builds in momentum right up until the chorus. This is stadium rock, a generic term that people tend to avoid but, this band is unashamed of using. The lyrics reflect escaping from tyrants that are not needed in one's life and eventually saying, Goodbye.
Track two - Temple of Trust: The influence of 90's upbeat British pop is undeniable here from the very first riff and compressed drum pattern that keeps things light footed before exploding into the first chorus. A story of finally finding that someone you can call you soul mate. In this case Mary, who is the Temple of Trust.
Track three - Take One More Chance: This power ballad owes its lyrical content and feel to the earlier albums of Matchbox Twenty. It creates the scenario of someone so disillusioned by relationship has given up on human connection without realising the answer to happiness is standing right in front of them.
Track four-Room at the Chapel: Captured in four minutes of rock/pop, this song tells the story of someone who has lived through the civil war, moved from town to town throughout his working life and finally lands in New Orleans at the town of the 1900's. The imagery captured in this arrangement paints a beautiful picture of a city enriched in music and architecture.
Track five-I Gave You Everything: The EP closer is a great example of how two points of view within a relationship breakdown can come together to form one final climax. To highlight its darker lyrical content, the scene is set with bass, keyboard and drums to set the mood while the haunting vocal melody brings you into the mind of the bitterness that one goes through after being 'let go'. This counteracted by an exhausted female point of view who had no option but to end the relationship due to feeling caged. This powerful vocal performance is provided by Ez Eddy of 'Spacegoat' giving the song the extra emotional energy it needs.
